The Ancestor Width of Grammars and Languages

چکیده

The ancestor width is a new measure for the structure of derivations of arbitrary grammars. For every production used in a derivation or equivalently for every leaf we consider the strings of ancestors. The ancestors deene a complexity measure with a local avour. Obviously , context-free grammars have ancestor width one. We show that languages with ancestor width two are context-free. However, every recursively enumerable set can be generated by a grammar with ancestor width three. For-free grammars the ancestor width is closely related to nondeterministic space complexity. Then languages such as fwcwcjw 2 fa; bg g, fa n b n c n jn 1g or f(a n c) n jn 1g can be generated with ancestor width four. Moreover, any language can be generated with ancestor width three, if padding is used and the language is represented with tails.

Alternating Regular Tree Grammars in the Framework of Lattice-Valued Logic

In this paper, two different ways of introducing alternation for lattice-valued (referred to as {L}valued)  regular tree grammars and {L}valued top-down tree automata are compared. One is the way which defines the alternating regular tree grammar, i.e., alternation is governed by the non-terminals of the grammar and the other is the way which combines state with alternation. The first way is ta...

The role of Persian causative markers in the acquisition of English causative verbs

This project investigates the relationship between lexical semantics and causative morphology in the acquisition of causative/inchoative-related verbs in English as a foreign language by Iranian speakers. Results of translation and picture judgment task show although L2 learners have largely acquired the correct lexico-syntactic classification of verbs in English, they were constrained by ...

The Bounded Tree-Width Problem of Context-Free Graph Languages

We show that the following (equivalent) problems are P-complete: 1. Does a given connuent NCE graph grammar only generate graphs of bounded tree-width? and 2. is the graph language generated by a given connuent NCE graph grammar an HR language? This settles the complexity of these important problems on graph grammars .

NCE Graph Grammars and Clique-Width

Graph grammars are widely used in order to deene classes of graphs having some inductive and narrow structure. In many cases the narrowness can be measured in terms of the maximal tree-width and/or clique-width of the graphs in the class, (see RS86],,CO00] for deenitions of these notions). It is known that using the corresponding tree-decomposition or clique-width parse term, any property of th...
